Local designer creates website for reference point and idea exchange.
Brett Hand, Architect, has composed a concept for United States citizens
to engage in daily activism and display the pride in their citizenship.
www.citizentshirt.com provides a bi-partisan, inclusionist view of what
makes each of us vital in the definition of our country and the future
of our nation. The website is a resource for information about news
regarding citizenship, ways in which to be active in your community,
a place to post views, see citizens in action, and purchase a t-shirt
celebrating you, the citizen.
Mr. Hand was inspired on a recent trip by seeing bumper stickers, t-shirts,
and other paraphernalia that espouse viewpoints that not all citizens
believe, but have the right to accept or reject. Our rights as United
States citizens stretch in so many directions, unfortunately, we do
not celebrate these beyond election day. Being a husband, father, volunteer,
taxpayer, and architect as some of his titles, there was only one word
that encompasses the totality of what he is, citizen. Advertising this
will encourage citizens to respect each other, think about their community,
and find common connections with others. Taking ownership of the word
and meaning of "citizen" from person to person is vital to
our national dialog.
www.citizentshirt.com
is driven to expand the vision of connecting citizens with local and
national community groups to create a stronger nation and a sense
of pride in everyday accomplishments, recognizing the beneficial outcomes
and working to correct non-functioning aspects of our daily lives.
Visitors to the website are encouraged to suggest links to local or
national organizations looking for volunteers, quotes regarding the
mission statement, or what people think of the site and shirt.
Mr. Hand and the website manager, Bethann Aurand, The
Media Loft, LLC, with others will be attending the inauguration
in Washington to spread the word of the website, sell shirts, and
encourage a broader connection to the internet community of citizen
volunteers.
